J.A. GOMEZ
J.A Gomez was born on the sunny island of Trinidad, but has lived most of her life in the eclectic city of Toronto, Canada. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology , and a Minor in English at the University of Nebraska while on a Track & Field Scholarship. She currently works as a nurse in Intensive Care, but regards her lifetime of writing of poetry and short fiction as her true passion. J.A's commentary and other writings were a regular feature for several years in Pride Newspaper, a bi-weekly Toronto publication. This particular piece is about a lover's flame that never quite made it to a three alarm blaze.

WATER FOR A FIRE
They say a flame in the heart
Leaves smoke in the mind
And even the smartest of minds
Can get hazy sometimes
Those things that you value
Stay the most true for you
Because your perceptions are 50% intuition
The other 50% is your condition
Running through the fields of life
It feels good, but it doesn’t always feel right
You want to stop and savor the rain
While most go for shelter until it wanes
Just recently you gave yourself up momentarily
Gave of your body voluntarily
But felt the blaze…the haze… then guarded your heart
And awaited the next downpour to depart
Now that the flame ceases to be
The fog in your mind has cleared easily
You can walk freely and dare the sun
With your smoldering heart again trying to be one
