EMILY HOME

--------

BRUISED FRUIT

I am
bruised
like a fruit
Hurt, softer
below the surface
But unlike fruit
I will heal
That part will
become harder
Another part of me
that you
cannot touch.

--------

SISYPHUS

As I walk up the mountain
pushing the weight
in front of me, I wait
For the moment that rock falls,
rolling down that mountain again
For as it reaches the bottom,
I am still at the top
And merely start walking down to it
For in the minutes that I walk down the mountain
I am free
to think my defiant thoughts
to carry only my own weight
I am unbound then
of my earthly servitude

--------

PERSEPHONE

Six months of the year
I do not care
what others say
It's cold as hell
down here
Infected by
his cold, void, consciousness
and my mothers
anger and sorrow
from above
My own anguish
mixed into the fray
somewhere
--------

FOCUS MY ANGER

I want to swing out
And smash it
Break it and destroy it
Focus my anger on it
But I'm focusing on
Air
Breaking and destroying
Nothing
Because you won't tell me
What it is
I want to break

--------

GENERICA

Without your tears
You will never have your laughter
Two sides of one coin
Without one, you lose the other
Can't you see?

Nemo saltat sobrius
(Sober men don not dance)
We need your passionate frenzies
heartfelt tears, and
real laughter
With blurry eyes
And stomach aches

Dum vivimus, vivamus
(while we live
let us live
to the fullest)
Your bliss is nothing
Merely sleepingwalking through
a minefield of emotion
That you were given a map for

'If only' and 'Maybe someday'
Are the most important phrases
We can ever utter
They keep us hoping
looking forward, and
living for another day
