TO TOUCH A GHAZAL
(FOR MARIA)
I reach above, beyond, and through to touch.
She waits alone, secure, a thrill to touch.
The light reflects, delights, and sends me home;
My love to kiss, embrace, her skin to touch.
The night enfolds, obscures, and stops my tears
When she invites, incites, her love to touch.
The heat of love, undone, is burning pain
She soothes anon, allays, my heart to touch.
Loneliness cuts, profound, into my core
But softens soon, given, victim hers to touch.
My darling waits, calling, "Come, sweet David".
We dance our love, joyous, forever to touch.
