DREAM OF A CYBORG
The cyborg’s mind becomes flooded with earthly seductions
as she turns into what she never wanted to be
and begins to love whom she never thought she would.
Her skin peels off at the direction of her feeble fingers
ripping away the façade to reveal the truth of her
to show that her insides are nothing more than shining metal
coated in artificial blood that surrounds her violently beating heart.
She cries tears of black oil that drip down her face
as her thoughts turn to those of the man whom she desires
the one that she sees day after day, yet is strongly forbidden to touch
and told by her own insides that she must never love.
But yet she loves him deeply.
Somewhere within her, the fake heart that her creator once implanted
is screaming in agony, trying desperately to tell her
that she is lying to herself… that she loves him sweetly.
The cyborg wanders in the darkest night
ambling towards what she believes is her salvation
as the cords tangle from their center on her neck
the ends sparking sadly, showing that her demise is near.
The alleyways are spitting dark coils of threat
as she nears the building that once hosted her beginning
and she stops in its front, staring it down
as though she wishes to destroy it with her painful memories.
She stands there for hours, barely moving, barely swaying
her hair stationary except when a breeze comes to touch her.
And by morning she whispers, “I am never free…”
and by midday she weeps and falls to the ground.
Her body like stone and her mind last to go
she sinks to her sadness and loses herself
into the ground, she falls away
the metal becoming the only proof of this life.
