DAVID SCHWARTZG

I THINK IF I WERE A PITCHER

I think if I were a pitcher
In the American or National league
And my nerve were bumble- jumpy
To hold onto out club a little lead
And is I pinched to close to the batter
And he ducked and tripped and fell
I'd put my glove on the pitched mound
And go over to wish the batter well

I'd explain that the ball got awes form me
And I intended not at all to him to swing
And I'd apologize for causing him a scare
By hearing my speed ball too closely to go whizzing
I would make sure that he was alright again
Before I would return to the mound
Then I'd pick up my glove and prepare again
To pitch the wind out of him and his pals
