ABOUT THE PUBLISHER
August Highland is the originator of over 12 genres of visual art and literature. See his online studio here. Highland presents his writing and visual work by using personae. There are over 80 personae, and each one writes in his or her own style. These personae are members of one of three simulated literary movements. This literary/art performance is called "Metapoetics Theatre". The projects of these literary movements span over 36 websites.
Each volume of literature is 500-1,000 pages in length and comes in a custom-designed box. The wood is available in three different wood types. Highland's literary works are in the collections of private collectors and have been acquired by the two most prestigious American special collection libraries at SUNY Buffalo and Ohio State University.
Tireless in his creative output and innovation, Highland has produced over 250,000 unique literary works. The concept of this vast output is called "Massive Media". Each literary work is a one-of-a-kind book, which elevates the value of each book to the status of an original artwork, like a painting or sculpture. Massive Media is Highland's own publishing model which counters the conventional publishing industry. The conventional publishing industry gives each reader a mass-produced product that is replaceable. Highland's massive production model gives each reader an unreplaceable one-of-a-kind literary work.
Highland has also originated a visual art style that is unprecedented with regard to the extent to which he is exploring and evolving this new visual genre. All the compositional elements of his visual work are text. The presentation of text ranges from straightforward printed words to complete abstraction. This genre of visual text is called "Alphanumeric Painting". All works are large-scale. They are in many private collections. Highland's visual work is on permanent display at Harvard, has been selected for exhibition by the curator of MOCA, and is being exhibited in solo and group shows. Current visual works are regularly updated and on display at Highland's online gallery at
