MARIA JACKETTI

MARIA JACKETTI: I have had six books published, supported in part through the NEA, Pennsylvania Council on the Arts, and/ or New York State Council on the Arts. They are highly regarded (literary) translations of Chilean Nobel Laureates Gabriela Mistral and Pablo Neruda. Complete descriptions of these titles can be found on Amazon.com. In addition, I am a published poet and was awarded a fellowship in poetry by the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. I have been a teacher since 1982, having taught ESL, English composition and literature, creative writing, Spanish and French. Most recently, I wrote a successful grant to revitalize and expand the ESL program at Saint Peter's College in Jersey City, New Jersey. I completed doctoral studies at Warnborough University, Canterbury, England in 2002. My doctoral dissertation was a study of magical realism in a cross- cultural context. The dissertation included a creative option, which I exercised through writing a novel.
