FRANCES MCCONNEL: I've been writing poetry since I was a wee child. My mother wrote poetry and encouraged me. I grew up in Rhode Island, Tennessee, and Alaska. I don 't think the first place was much influence, but the others were, as well as Seattle, where I got my schooling at the University of Washington. The Northwest muses still speak to me. I've been teaching in the Creative Writing Dept. of the University of California in Riverside for some years-poetry, fiction, and creative-nonfiction, all of which I write. You can find my work on the web in Mudlark, 2 River Review, Stirring Mag, Salt River Review, Haiku Hut/-Short Stuff, and Sprawlopolis.
