In the little green can
Next to the hydrogen fireball
Scrubbing power to burn
THE ROCKET'S RED GLARE
The second half of the war on Iraq
Suggests the American empire will
Fight colonial wars ad infinitum,
They have a half dozen going on right now,
Until they exhaust themselves.
Knowing this doesn't knock me out with happiness
But it would save protesters a lot of time
If they can agree it's the inevitable
Fate of empires
Who imagine they're immune to history
While merely being ignorant of it.
Bush apologized to Karzai
After the Senate worked him over
His Afghani warlord anointed
ON JANUARY 8TH THE NEW YEAR'S RESOLUTIONS FINALLY KICK IN
At 5:00 AM the weight room at the YMCA
Seems crowded with fifty or more participants.
Through the holidays at this hour
There were barely ten to fifteen.
A new year and an old problem:
Get the weight off before it fills up the coffin.
