FOUR WORKS
BY BRAD EVANS

2-FACED

the first thing
Ray said to me
when I started work
for him
down in the basement
was:

BRAD, YOU AND ME!
WE THINK ALIKE!!

Yeah,

sure Ray,

Which is why you reacted
the way you did
when I suggested that my work colleagues
walk out
when the store was understaffed
and you mentioned
the possibility of firing
those who did.

MY FRIEND, ANDRI

in the
cambridge blue
with my friend, andri

he tells me
that self-publishing
is not a good habit.

I think about this carefully,
drink my beer,
and reply:

now that we know
a poet like Shelley exists
would you say the same to him
if he were here

tonight

in the
cambridge blue'.

OLD FAY

old Fay
arrives at the bookstore where I work
usually in the afternoon...

and I know when she's arrived:

once she finds
the chair she likes

people,
within a space of 5 metres radius,
disperse.

Fay looks about 48
and seems like she

hasn't washed
since

1341

A.
D.

,

the year,
they say,

soap
was invented.

UNTITLED

she uses
my poems
for coasters

I'll find them
like casualties

scattered about the house,

or like the husks of dead flies
clustered along window sills.

they appear
from beneath piles of books
or dirty clothes,

on tables,
on the floor

or she'll sit a glass
of water
on one

finding
a use for it

finally.
